To conclude then, the AEC phantom is capable of testing the image quality on each AEC system.
Information on the relative radiation dose at each position can be inferred from the recorded mA.
Each system gave results that were broadly in line with the expected values. Although some of the results were not precisely correct, they represent a considerable improvement over manual setting of the mA with no AEC.
Each system operates differently, and has different image quality aims and philosophy.
It is important for users to be aware of how their system works, and the correct methods for use.
Manufacturers need to ensure that appropriate default scan protocols are supplied, and that sufficient training is given to users.
