Problems with single slice cardiac CT

• Cardiac motion (60 – 120 bpm) blurs conventional single slice images

  • Previous solution – EBCT, scan time 0.1 s

• Z-axis resolution of single slice scanners limited when covering entire heart in one breath hold

• Half scan techniques (using 180° data) can improve effective scan time by factor of nearly 2

  • 0.75 s single slice scanner ? 0.5 s half scan
