Multi-slice dose issues : helical scanning

• Interpolation requires extra irradiation at either end of image volume

  • extra half or full rotation is needed at both ends of scan in ss,
  • sometimes more in ms

• Additional irradiation is more significant for multi-slice

  • in particular when using short scan ranges
  • for short scan lengths it may be preferable to use axial scanning
