Adjusting mAs for patient size

• Clinical experience shows that noise requirements vary with patient size

  • small patients: require lower noise
  • large patients: higher noise acceptable

• In practice recommendation is to double mAs for every

  • ~10 cm in abdomen scans
  • ~13 cm in lung scans
