Mechanical instability

• E.g. x-ray tube rotor wobble

  • Anode rotates at ~10,000 rpm
  • High temperatures generated produce wear and tear on rotor assembly
  • High frequency rotor wobble causes deviation of x-ray beam
  • Streaks appear in image
