Manufacturers’ claims
IGE
- Optimum image quality obtained at two specific pitches: “3” and “6”. No other pitches available on the LightSpeed.
Siemens
- No significant shange in image quality with pitch. Full range of pitches available.
Marconi
- Little difference in image quality with pitch, but specific pitches nevertheless recommended, e.g. 0.875 and 1.25.
Notes:
IGE, for example, claim that there are two “sweet spots” in image quality at pitches which, using their definition, they call 3 and 6. These are the only pitches available on the LightSpeed. A more conventional definition of pitch is used in this talk, which makes the IGE “High Quality” mode pitch 0.75 and their “High Speed” mode pitch 1.5.
In contrast to IGE, Siemens claim that there is no significant difference in imaging performance over the full range of pitches available on the Volume Zoom.
Marconi’s standpoint is somewhere between the other two manufacturers. They consider variation in image quality with pitch to be only slight, and have a full range of pitches available, but they nevertheless recommend certain very specific pitches for certain protocols, the most common ones being 0.875 and 1.25.
