With an AEC, the tube current is adjusted automatically relative to the patient attenuation.
This could be from one patient to the next, with a single tube current used for each patient.
Or along the patient’s length, using a different tube current during each rotation.
Or during the course of a rotation, for asymmetric body regions.
In practice, two or more of these functions are combined.
