Detector Arrays and Slice Width
Notes:
These diagrams show the different detector array designs, in the z-direction, for each manufacturer.
There are 2 basic types of detector array design:
- the fixed matrix, where all detector elements are of equal length in z
- the adaptive array, where detector length varies in z
Marconi and Siemens share a common gantry and tube, and the same adaptive array design
Toshiba uses a primarily fixed matrix: most detector elements have an effective length of 1mm; the 4 central elements have an effective length of 0.5mm
For each design, the data acquired in each rotation can be combined in a variety of ways to achieve different slice widths. Selections of slice combinations achievable, for each array design, are shown in the white boxes on the slide.
