This supplementary report to the CEP buyers' guide to multislice CT scanners provides comparative specifications of CT scanners that are capable of acquiring more than 64 slices. In this category the number of slices is generally considered in conjunction with the length of coverage. These are specialist scanners primarily aimed at cardiac or perfusion imaging and length of coverage along the z-axis is of particular importance for these studies. A greater number of slices may mean longer coverage, or may be as a result of a higher slice acquisition density due to the dynamic focal spot.
