A Technical Assessment of the Philips Tomoscan M Computed Tomography Scanner. MDA/99/34, May-99

The Philips Tomoscan M is a novel design of CT scanner, as it can be moved to the location of the patient, for example to the operating theatre or intensive care unit. It has separate gantry and patient table sections, both of which are on wheels, and slot together to perform scanning. The scanner can also be used with other patient supports, as the gantry is able to move 35 cm in the z-direction. The scanner can be operated independent of power supply, using the on board batteries. The report assesses the dosimetry and imaging performance of the Tomoscan M, and concludes that it is not as good as most modern CT scanners, but the obvious benefits of its mobile design make it useful for certain niche applications.
